Oh, I'm so sorry. I've been grateful to have parents who love bragging to their friends about the work I do in sexuality and health education.

Yes Tara, I also experience different versions (or in IFS terms "parts") of myself surfacing when I'm around each of my parents. The awareness to see those parts coming out and to comfort, console and temper them is a beautiful gift you are giving yourself. Parents give us so much, something it seems we can only fully grasp once we are parents ourselves. The hard truth is that they raise us in the best way they can with the tools they have available, and also we still come out of childhood carrying attachment wounds, missing pieces and protective armor that got us through.

So true. I remember thinking shortly after my first child was born.... "wait!? My parents actually feel this way about me?"
