Why Listen to Me?

For 17 years, I’ve taught elementary Montessori to children between the ages of 6 and 12; for 10 of those years I’ve had the privilege of teaching sexuality education to 5th & 6th graders.

I’ve noticed a change. Children ask explicit questions earlier. They express a desperate need to understand this ubiquitous topic that many adults noticeably avoid.

A guiding phrase from Montessori education philosophy is “follow the child.” Today’s children have shown me that they NEED sexuality education. And if children don’t get what they need from trusted adults in their world, then they seek it out.

I’m a mother who is hellbent on preparing her children (currently aged 11 & 6 yo twins) with the education they need to be self-actualized, socially responsible humans with deep respect for others and capacity for love in all shapes and sizes.

Between weekly sex ed classes in my beloved Montessori school and small, scaffolded, sexuality education with my children, I have direct experience and process to share with you.

Btw, I’m also imperfect, sometimes lost, angry, or unsure. Winning Sex Ed is not a prescriptive parenting place. Instead, it’s a place to unpack taboo sex ed topics and blaze a new paradigm of guiding children and expanding our capacity to be comfortable with sex and sexuality topics.

I’d be honored to have you Subscribe and grow with me.
