"He was out!" "No! I was safe." This photo was taken by my husband yesterday as I consoled a pile of sad and angry kickball players. The game did not go as planned for some participants. Learning to be a humble winner and a graceful loser is a hard lesson.
As the 2024 presidential winner becomes clear over the next few days, we will all have the opportunity to practice and role model winning and losing.
As for tonight, on the eve of the election, after obsessing over this election and doing what I could, I plan to follow the advice a wise gardener shared with me today:
Free Fall and Surrender
If Harris wins, our country will start writing a new story— a story with a woman at the helm. If (when😉) she wins, many people will be angry, and some of us will weep—sobs of relief, feeling the gravitas of this historical moment.
If Trump wins, we will learn that our country’s wound of sexism and oppression is deeply, deeply infected.
No matter who becomes the 47th president of the United States of America, we still have the right and responsibility to educate our children—to teach them about dignity, respect, and the incredible complexity of the human experience. 💫
Political party affiliation does not need to determine whether or not a child has access to comprehensive sexuality education. You can educate your child and change the world, one NBD convo at a time.
Red, blue, or purple - there will always be more teaching and learning to do.
For now, I invite you to free fall and surrender with me ✨
