Are You Ready to Overcome the Taboo of Sex Ed?
Learn How to Provide Developmentally-Appropriate Sex Ed, Starting Early
Hello friends ~ I’m Tara Hartley.
I am on a mission to empower families to overcome taboo and learn how to talk with their children about sexuality education.

This Substack is for anyone who recognizes our tech culture has changed the landscape of childhood, creating a need for an updated sexual health education paradigm.
Sexuality education seems to be under attack in America. Some schools may teach it well, many may not. This interactive website from SEICUS shows the mandates for sex ed in every state.
Fear not, because parents have the single greatest influence on a child’s future sexuality well-being. With a few mindset shifts and some helpful information, we can become the #1 resource.
Understanding our human bodies and the social-emotional parts of sexuality is an essential part of life. Evidence shows that children benefit from early, age-appropriate, comprehensive sexuality education. Sex ed is life ed.
Culture has programmed us to feel shame and some LOUD disinformation campaigns are being used to scare and confuse. I believe there are many families who would teach their children about sexuality, well-being and inclusivity using a holistic, heart-centered approach. I’m here to show you the way.
In this Substack, I’ll be sharing insights on parenting and sexuality education for children ages 0-15. You can expect pertinent research articles, curated sexuality education resources, and your own personal cheerleading squad. I post on Thursdays. You and your children will reap the benefits of open communication and a stronger relationship for the rest of your lives.
I draw heavily on my 17 years of experience as a classroom elementary Montessori teacher, and 10 years as a sexuality education teacher. Oh, the stories I have to share…
However, my greatest inspiration comes from being a mother of three wondrous children; 5-year old identical twins, and a remarkable 10-year old. My goal is to empower them with quality, developmentally-appropriate sexuality education, so they may grow into healthy, self-actualized adults.
For the record, I could never refer to myself as an “expert” because the thought of being an expert of human experience is preposterous. I am a perfectly flawed teacher, mother, survivor and I believe that some of my greatest learning has come from painful places, which in time, I plan to share here.
I hope to create a community where we can be real, and evolve into supportive, informed sex-ed resources for our children. I invite you to share a thought or comment about your human experience with sexuality education. Did your experience serve you well?

Welcome everyone♥️
So excited for you to share your wisdom here, Tara!
